Scorpion Solitaire is one of the older patience games, played with a single deck. Instead of sorting cards straight onto foundations, you build long runs in the tableau, one suit at a time, from King down to Ace. When a run is complete it leaves the table by itself. The Solitaire page lists plenty of its relatives.
It feels different from Klondike because you can move whole groups of cards, even when they are not in order, which makes it more about untangling than dealing. It is free to play here, and phone players can drag cards with a fingertip.
Building runs in suit
In the classic rules, any face up card can be moved together with everything on top of it, as long as the card you place it on is one rank higher and of the same suit. Only a King can fill an empty column. Once you build a complete sequence from King to Ace in one suit, it is moved to the foundations automatically. Clear all four suits to win.
Scorpion strategy
- Uncover face down cards early, they are what usually blocks a win.
- Save any column you empty for a King, since nothing else may start one.
- Before moving a large group, check that it does not bury a card you need next.
