Christmas Klondike Solitaire is the familiar card sorting game for one player, dressed for the holidays. The rules are the ones Klondike players know well. Hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs each get their own home pile, filled upward rank by rank, while the columns on the table hold runs that go downward and swap color with every card.

Mouse or fingertip, either will do, since it plays on computers and phones. Fans of patience will find many more deals in Solitaire.

Klondike rules in short

The aim is to fill four home piles by suit, Ace first and King last. In the columns, you may lay a red six on a black seven, a black five on a red six, and so on down the ranks. Moving cards uncovers the face down ones below, and in Klondike an empty column can usually take a King.

Klondike strategy

  • Reveal hidden cards in the columns at every chance, since they are what block most games.
  • Send each Ace up to its pile the moment it shows, and the Two right after.
  • Think twice before filling an empty column, choose a King that frees useful cards.
