Dynasty War takes you back to the Three Kingdoms period, when the Han Dynasty lands were torn apart by rival warlords. You choose one of four rulers and set out to take the entire map, which gives the game its long, patient rhythm. It fits well among our Strategy titles.

Taking the Three Kingdoms
Pick a ruler at the start, then set about expanding from where that ruler begins. The goal is simple to state and hard to pull off, you want every region on the map under your control. The mouse handles the main actions, and the arrow keys scroll the view so you can see the parts of the map that sit off screen.
Advice for a new warlord
- Secure the land nearest to you before you reach far away.
- Scroll around the map often so a rival does not surprise you from an unseen side.
- Once you finish with one ruler, try another of the four for a fresh campaign.
